What kind of Church has God planted in Creekside?
As we have studied the scriptures, we have recognized several core values that God reveals for His church. We have identified these areas, not as things that we have mastered, but as goals that we, by God’s grace, need to pursue and see Him develop in us.
We are committed to seeing God work in and through us by:
Truth: God has stated that He saves, matures, and strengthens people through the teaching and proclamation of His word in love. He has also revealed His will through the scriptures, establishing them as the authority in the church and in our lives. Knowing that God has chosen to work in that way, we desire to faithfully proclaim the whole counsel of God with clarity and love. (Acts 20:27; 2 Tim 3:12; 2 Tim 4:1-8; Acts 2:42)
Community: At the moment an individual comes into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, he is indwelt by the Holy Spirit and made part of God’s household, the church. God expects this body of believers to grow through dependence, love, care and authenticity with one another. Our love for one another is a testimony of Christ’s love to the world. (Acts 2:42; Romans 15; John 17)
Prayer: We recognize that the sovereign God of the universe has chosen to work through the prayers of His people. We want to continually grow in our faith and trust in God and see Him work in response to prayer. Regular communication with God through prayer is vital to us both individually and corporately, and we desire to make it a priority in what we do. (Acts 2:42; James 5:17; Matthew 6; 1 Thess. 5:17)
Worship: God is seeking men and women to worship Him. True worship is an expression to God of how much we value Him. It involves the whole person offering himself completely to God in every activity of life throughout the week. In gathering we seek to express the worth of our God through songs of praise, reflection and celebration, in prayer, through the offering of our finances to support ministry, and through loving interactions with one another in a spirit of joy. (John 4:21-24; Eph. 4:18-19; Romans 12:1-2)
Mission: God calls us to reach out to those who do not know the forgiveness and peace that can only come from Him. In the Spirit, our lifestyle and demeanor will be so qualitatively different from that of the lost that the transforming power of the gospel will be demonstrated to them. We must communicate the gospel in both what we say and in how we live to help others understand God’s love and sacrifice for them. Corporately, as a church, we desire to equip, affirm, and send others to build Christ’s church in the surrounding area, throughout our country, and throughout the earth. (1 Peter 2:9-12; Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Timothy 2:8-10)
Leadership: God has designed His church to function as a family. Individuals and families must be strengthened because they are the church. God has also revealed in His word His design for the management, nurture, and care for each of its members. We desire to see qualified elders shepherding the church with deacons assisting them in the physical care of the household of God. (Titus 1, 1 Tim. 3:1-15, 1 Cor. 12, Romans 12)
Equipping: All men and women saved by God have been given unique abilities to serve Him and the church. The scriptures teach that one of the main jobs of church leadership is to equip the people of God to live lives of service. We desire to equip God’s people to be faithful stewards of the gifts that God has given to edify the body. (Eph. 4:10-16; 2 Tim 2:2
... I write so that you may know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth. I Timothy 3:15
